Warning – Change your Twitter Password Now

Twitter Inc is urging all its 330 million users to change their passwords after a bug was discovered. The passwords of some users were stored in plain text rather than changed & disguised through a process called hashing.

The issue was revealed by Twitter in a blog post. As per, the company the issue has been resolved and an investigation is going on. Till now there has been no indication that any password was stolen or misused in any way. Still, as a precaution, the Twitteratis’ are asked to change their password.

Chief Executive Jack Dorsey said in a Tweet “We fixed the bug and have no indication of a breach or misuse by anyone. As a precaution, consider changing your password on all services where you’ve used this password.”

No details have been given as to how many accounts have suffered due to this glitch. As per a source, the number was “substantial” and Twitter was exposed for “several months.”

The bug was discovered by Twitter, some weeks ago & the issue was reported to a few regulators.

The Twitter blog said, “We are very sorry this happened.”

In order to keep your account safe, Twitter has asked its users to not just change the password but also enable the Twitter’s two-factor authentication service. This will prevent the account from getting hacked or misused.

It is quite disturbing & alarming that the biggest social media apps are not secure at all. From Facebook to Twitter nothing is safe. Your data can be misused by any of the sites you blindly trust.

Yes, we will change the password, but how much of our personal data has already been misused, and what guarantee is that changing the password will solve the issue. It is high time that these tech giants, are held accountable for not keeping their sites secure.
