Warning! Don’t dry your wet iPhone in a bag of rice

Most of the modern smartphones come with water resistance. However, the possibility of a potential malfunction can’t be ruled out in certain cases. In order to encounter problems associated with wet devices, internet offers a variety of solutions. One of the common methods adopted by most users is putting the wet phone in a bag of rice. Nevertheless, this approach doesn’t yield very good results. Additionally, Apple has released a warning against putting damp iPhones in rice.

The official support documents by the company educates users on what to do if they end up wetting their devices. First and foremost, the iPhones show a liquid detection pop alert on the screen. This feature is available on iPhone XS and later models. In case a liquid is detected in the connector port or any accessory, the alert pops up. When everything is dry, charging and the accessory connection are thus turned off.

According to the company, users must avoid placing their wet devices in a rice bag since the small particles of rice can damage the iPhone. For many years, the common household item was the fastest way to remove moisture from wet electronics. The tech titan has now dispelled the misconception with a caution. Until or unless the device completely dries, any accessory or charging must not be connected with the device.

According to the company, you should point the phone down and lightly tap it against your hand. After that, you must leave your iPhone in a dry place with some ventilation. Apple claims that in the event that the liquid detection notice resurfaces, drying iPhones using this method could take up to 24 hours. Besides this, the company states that users must not use methods like compressed air, cotton swabs, and hair dryers for drying wet iPhones.
