With No Updates to Hardware or Software, Apple Doubles the iPhone 15’s Battery Life

As compared to its competitors, Apple has nearly total control over the hardware and software of its smartphones, which helps them to maintain a distinct market position. Samsung, on the other hand, customizes Google’s Android operating system. For hardware, Samsung relies on Qualcomm and other manufacturers. Whereas Apple uses in-house software and hardware components for its iPhones.

Nevertheless, concerns have been aroused by a recent company statement. With no modifications to the device’s hardware or software, Apple asserts that the iPhone 15’s battery now provides twice the lifespan that was initially anticipated.

The information on the support page of the iPhone 15 was recently updated by the company. According to company, the earlier estimate of 500 charge cycles has been doubled. Reportedly, the phones would retain up to 80% of their original capacity after 1000 cycles. Interestingly, there are no software or hardware updates from the company. It appears like the company retested the iPhone 15 models to draw this conclusion and updated the support page with the new results.

But there are concerns about the timing of this move. Although we would like to keep our “belief in Apple’s integrity,” the modification appears to be in line with impending EU laws that will give phone batteries an energy rating. Similar to the system used for refrigerators and washing machines, the European Union is considering new laws that will issue energy efficiency ratings to smartphones, ranging from A to G.

These ratings will provide insights about the battery life and energy efficiency of the smartphones. The company is perhaps trying to follow the European Union standards. These changes won’t impart a big impact on iPhone users. One thing to notice here is that the iPhone 14 series and its predecessors still feature the 80% battery capacity after 500 charge cycles.
