WearOS Fast Pair: Pixel Watch Connects to Pixel Buds Pro in 2 seconds

The Pixel Watch, Google’s future connected watch, will be compatible with the Fast Pair feature. This greatly facilitates the connection between TWS (True Wireless Stereo) headphones and a Bluetooth device. It will soon be integrated into the WearOS system by default. Google’s goal is to build a bridge between the smartwatch and the Pixel Buds Pro, two products announced for the second half of 2022.

In May, Google introduced new products to its ecosystem. New smartphones. New tablet. And especially new headphones, the Pixel Buds Pro, and the first connected watch under its brand, the Pixel Watch. The first will be available in the United States in a month, along with the Pixel 6A. And the second one will be offered at the end of the year, the exact date has not been announced. But everything points to it arriving at the same time as the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro in the fall.

If all the technical details of the watch have not been revealed (Google has focused on the design and not the components), one has been confirmed: the watch will be compatible with WearOS 3, the next version of the connected object operating system. The Pixel Watch will logically take advantage of that first. Many improvements are expected with WearOS 3. And one of them has just been discovered in the bowels of the application Google Play Services.

Wear OS 3 connects the Pixel Watch to the Pixel Buds Pro very easily

The Mountain View company has started rolling out a numbered update 22.24 In the list of changes there is a line specific to Wear OS: “Fast Pair for Wear OS allows to discover previously paired headphones and connect them with accessories”. Understand that Wear OS will therefore be Fast Pair compatible and the system will automatically connect a connected watch to a pair of headphones associated with a Google account, for example, even if the headphones have never been connected to the watch before And that’s just really good, given that Google just announced on the product sheet of the Pixel Buds Pro that its next pair of headphones can connect to various devices associated with a Google account, or laptop, smartphone or smartwatch Also note that the system is more open than Apple’s as the Pixel Buds Pro should be able to connect multipoint to Android, Windows or iOS devices.

WearOS Fast Pair, Google gets even closer to the Apple Continuity experience

Fast Pair integration with Wear OS brings Google one step closer to the continuity experience that Apple offers in its own ecosystem. For example, AirPods are able to switch from a MacBook to an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch without service interruption. The homogeneity of the experience offered by the Cupertino company has always been envied by the competition on Windows and Android. With Fast Pair, among other things, this is no longer an unattainable goal.
