WhatsApp beta: chats will soon be copied to iOS devices

Last year, WhatsApp announced a feature designed to make switching between Android devices and iPhones easier. The latest iOS beta includes hints about a chat histories import feature. Currently, chats can only be copied using third-party apps. The instant messenger has long had the option of linking the app to a cloud account. This allows the chat history to be restored quickly if the user buys a new smartphone. However, this only works if both the previous device and the new model have the same mobile operating system.

An exception is iPhone owners, which can transfer all chat histories stored on the iOS device to Samsung and Pixel smartphones. In the future, it should be possible to migrate chat histories between the two platforms without restrictions. The import function has been further prepared with the new iOS beta 22.2.74. WABetaInfo examined the software and found that there is already a hidden dialogue regarding the chat migration. During setup, users are asked if they want to import messages from Android devices. The message is only displayed after installing the app, so it is not possible to import the chat histories afterwards. It is still unclear when the function will be built into a final version.

Third-party apps are not supported officially

Anyone who wants to move from an Android smartphone to an iOS device is currently dependent on third-party programs to transfer chat history to the new model. However, it should be noted that applications such as WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp are not officially supported. These are modified versions of the messenger whose security procedures cannot be verified. According to the WhatsApp support page, users who use such a third-party app should expect the account to be temporarily blocked.
