WhatsApp: A bridge between businesses and their targeted audience

The instant messaging service WhatsApp is building a system where businesses could reach directly to their audience through this instant messaging app.

In 2014, Facebook acquired WhatsApp for a hefty sum of $19 billion. The service is used by over 1 billion users around the globe. But since its acquisition, the company has not been able to develop any business model.

Keeping this in mind, WhatsApp is now testing a system to build a bridge between businesses and their targeted audience. A report says that through this system businesses could approach their targeted audience in exchange for a charge paid to the Facebook’s subsidiary.

Have you updated your instant messaging app?

The instant messaging service provider claims that this new system would be scam-free. They also plan to run surveys to study users’ behavior if the system is implemented.

In the initial stages, the instant messaging company would limit the business entrants. They recently have agreed upon a deal with Y Combinator, a startup incubator company. The startups on their platform might be first ones to reach their targeted audience using this new API.

WhatsApp is still in the testing phase and has not yet rolled out their further plans.

The new business model by WhatsApp would sound attractive for business, especially small businesses. They usually are required to invest stream of bucks before gaining a good traffic. With this new (and probably cheap) source of marketing would help grow such businesses, fast.
