There is good news for WhatsApp users – hackers now won’t be able to access your chats. WhatsApp now has fixed a loophole that allowed hackers to secretly access your chats.
Check Point Research (CPR), previously reported a loophole in WhatsApp’s security where attackers could read sensitive information by exploiting the image filter function. Thanks to all those who highlighted this flaw, the company has now fixed the issue.
CPR reported that while using the image filter function they learned that switching between filters on crafted GIF files caused WhatsApp to crash. The company reported the same to WhatsApp that resulted in fixing the issue.
WhatsApp has over 2 billion active users, making it a safe haven for attackers. With this one responsible step from CPR, these 2 billion users are now in safe hands. We do expect attackers to do the same to grab data. But now we are confident that companies like CPR are here to protect our data.
