WhatsApp is among the most popular platforms available for messaging. But that popularity surely has its drawbacks. In recent cases, hackers often try to access your WhatsApp account using different methods like SIM swaps and other kinds of attacks. Although Meta is all geared up for these attacks by offering some security measures, including end-to-end encrypted chats, But it looks like these kinds of security don’t work well in that kind of scenario. WhatsApp is planning to add some of the latest security amendments to the platform.
In the current version, switching to a new device requires a pin from you to verify that it’s you. In any case, if your two-factor authentication isn’t active, access to your WhatsApp account is quite easy using a SIM swap attack or if the hacker gets your OTP by any means. WhatsApp is planning to sort these issues with account protection.
With this latest update, in case you switch to a new device, a prompt code will be sent over to your old device, which will be a way to make sure that you are switching devices. This latest amendment will prevent hackers from getting access to your account.
Along with this Malware and Trojans are some of the common issues that can infect your device. With these issues, the WhatsApp authentication key can be accessed and used to prevent sending unwanted messages to your contacts. For sorting out this issue, WhatsApp is launching its latest test regarding device verification that will be running in the background of the app to verify the authentication.
For quite some time, WhatsApp has been providing a security verification code that verifies it to be encrypted. This isn’t all; this process requires an advanced verification by scanning a QR code along with its comparison with the recipient or can be verified manually by comparing a 60-digit hash key that is provided to both parties. WhatsApp is planning on making this process a lot more convenient through Key Transparency.
With this latest update, you can tap on encryption, and it’ll immediately show you if the chat is encrypted. But scanning the QR code is still required, even though the content match with the message recipient isn’t required.
These features are all already in the process of rolling out, and they’ll be available on your devices soon.
