WhatsApp will now let you bookmark disappearing messages

The feature of disappearing messages was introduced by WhatsApp in 2022. With various updates to this feature, users are now able to enable it for every chat. Users were also able to set the duration after which the messages could disappear, from 24 hours to 7 days. But sometimes some messages are important to keep for some reference or something, and WhatsApp is now making it possible with its latest feature, “keep in chat”.

This latest feature will let you bookmark certain messages that are important for future access. Also, to bookmark someone else’s message, WhatsApp will send them a notification for approval. If they deny the request, the message will disappear after the specified duration.

The purpose of implementing this feature in that way is to make it secure and maintain privacy. All of this feature’s functionality is based on the sender’s approval, which will decide if the message can be saved or not.

Messages that will be saved using this feature will appear with a bookmarked icon in the chat that will be visible to the sender and receiver in the chat. Also, they can be accessed through a message folder where they are arranged in chronological order.

WhatsApp was spotted working on this feature last May. Along with this update, there are also 15 new time durations introduced by the platform that weren’t included in today’s announcement. This feature will be rolling out worldwide in the coming weeks.
