WhatsApp will now let you transfer your chat history with a cloud-less option

When it comes to transferring WhatsApp chats from one device to another, it’s such messy work. Whatsapp was allowing you to backup your chats via Google Drive, which enables you to transfer them to another Android device when required. However, this was the only way to transfer your chats between Android devices. WhatsApp doesn’t allow you to transfer these chats without a backup on Google Drive. Although this feature seems to be updating as Meta-owned platforms are spotted with a cloud-less option within the current year, This latest feature is currently available for some beta testers.

As reported by WABetaInfo, users with the latest WhatsApp Beta version (v2.23.9.19) are able to experience this feature. This tool will allow you to transfer your conversations between Android devices with a backup on Google Drive.

By selecting the option, you need to scan a QR code from the device you need to transfer chat to to continue the process. As it wasn’t specified, the transfer tends to happen over a Wi-Fi connection; however, this might not bring any changes for chat transfer from Android to iOS or the other way around.

The addition of local chat migration to WhatsApp will be helpful, especially for users who reside in regions with sporadic or subpar internet connectivity. Additionally, it will be a lot quicker than first backing up your chat history to Google Drive and then restoring it on a different device.

The local chat transfer feature has been released by WhatsApp to a select group of beta testers. Therefore, the option might not show up in the Settings menu even if you are using the most recent WhatsApp beta build. It’s unfortunate that your only option in this situation is to wait for a wider beta deployment or for the functionality to appear in the stable channel.

When the tool is released, it will further solidify WhatsApp’s status as one of the top Android messaging apps.
