Windows 10/11 Patchday June 2026: The big security update is here

Microsoft released security updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 on June Patch Day. The new builds fix bugs and security holes – and there are a number of improvements.

Regular security and maintenance updates

The updates are recommended for all users because, in addition to introducing new functions, they also close security gaps and bring improvements. The patches start for all users of the still fully supported versions of Windows 11 and also for Windows 10 ESU users. Microsoft lists all changes and available variants for desktop and server in the Windows Update history and has published the corresponding knowledge base articles. We have compiled the available updates. The updates can be obtained via the Windows Update function, via the Microsoft Update Catalog or via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

Security-related changes

Microsoft combines the latest Servicing Stack Update (SSU) for the operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). If you use an older LCU update, you must first carry out the separately offered SSU updates. A little tip: At the start of the release, the KB articles may not yet be directly accessible from Microsoft. But that usually changes quite quickly. Highlights Windows 10 22H2

This security update contains quality improvements that were part of the May 12, 2026 non-security update (KB5087544).

[Explorer] This update improves Explorer search, including support for Chinese text and UTF 8 encoded files without byte order marking (BOM). Text now appears clearer and more consistently in search results, content views, and tooltips.

[Sicherer Start] This update enables dynamic status reporting for secure boot states in the Windows Security app.

Highlights Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2

This security update includes improvements that were part of updates KB5089549 (released on May 12, 2026) and KB5089573 (released on May 26, 2026).

Vulnerability details

With the current patch day, Microsoft is fixing a record number of over 200 vulnerabilities in Azure, M365 Copilot, Kerberos, PowerToys and Windows Shell. The update also addresses security vulnerabilities in the kernel, Windows Remote Desktop, Microsoft Defender as well as several vulnerabilities in Office, BitLocker and Visual Studio Code.
