Windows 10 1909 Will Only Receive Important Security Updates In Future

Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 Version 1909 will end. The last non-security-relevant update was released a few days ago. It’s a final optional update.

From now on there will only be security-relevant updates for this version. This can be seen from the notes on the latest version KB 5005624 . The regular security updates and bug fixes that are published on the fixed dates (patch day) will be discontinued for Windows 10 version 1909 in May of next year.

As Microsoft said earlier “Starting October 2021, Windows 10, version 1909, will no longer have optional, non-security releases (known as” C “releases). Only cumulative monthly security updates (known as” B “or Update Tuesday versions) will continue for Windows 10, version 1909. This September 21, 2021 update is the final non-security release for Windows 10, version 1909.“

Regular support duration for Windows 10

The normal support period ends as planned in eight months: the individual Windows 10 versions, unlike older operating systems such as Windows 7, only receive regular support from Microsoft for 18 months and then only security updates.

The last security update for Windows 10 Version 1909 is planned for patch day in May 2022. But that does not mean that there might not be one or the other emergency update after all. Microsoft reserves the right to do this at any time, even for outdated versions, if the Windows team deems it necessary. There is also extended support for company editions of Windows 10. Microsoft will be releasing two major updates this year, Windows 11 and Windows 10 21H2, to which users of Windows 10 1909 can switch.
