Windows 10 Copilot Update Brings AI Bot Compatibility

Microsoft wants to soon offer its AI assistant Windows Copilot to Windows 10 users. According to the sources of a media report, the older operating system will receive a corresponding update. The Redmond company wants to increase the range of Copilot.

Windows 10 will also soon be expanded with AI functions, which initially only means the integration of Windows Copilot. According to a report from Windows Central, Microsoft wants to deliver an update for the predecessor of Windows 11 in the near future, with which the AI ​​assistant will be retrofitted.

As with Windows 11, the new update should also put a button for accessing Copilot directly in the taskbar in Windows 10. If you press this button, the same sidebar will open in Windows 10 in the future, through which you can interact with the AI ​​bot in order to have all kinds of tasks carried out automatically by the generative artificial intelligence.

A Billion More Copilot Users

The reason for the decision to also offer Windows Copilot under Windows 10 is said to be the older operating system’s still huge market share. Currently, Windows 10 is still actively used on around a billion systems every month, while Windows 11 “only” has around 400 million monthly active users.

Microsoft can therefore potentially appeal to a huge audience with the update for AI integration in Windows 10 and later claim that it has around 1.4 billion systems on which Copilot is theoretically attractive to plug-in developers so that they have incentives to create new extensions for this and not another AI platform.

The approach of upgrading Windows 10 with new features that are actually exclusive to Windows 11 is said to be due to a changed strategy of the Windows team’s new performance. After the departure of Panos Panay as head of Windows development, Microsoft carried out an internal restructuring and filled important positions with employees who were clearly working towards a focus on AI and cloud products.
