Windows 10 Update Will Enhance Taskbar Customizations

Big innovations in Windows 10 and the respective feature updates have long been history. But that does not mean that there are no more useful improvements. One of the plans is to move the taskbar settings to the Settings app.

One of Microsoft’s longest-running projects in connection with Windows 10 is transferring settings from the good old control panel to the new Settings app. This project is progressing slowly but surely, and more and more people are finding a new home there.

Microsoft is not only moving the settings, it is also expanding the options and implementing innovations. In addition, according to the motto “One app for all cases”, setting options are integrated that was previously to be found elsewhere.

Context menu: useful or awkward?

This also includes the customization options for the taskbar: this can already be customized in a wide variety of ways. The problem with this: Many of these options can only be made via the context menu, i.e. a right-click. According to Windows Latest, Microsoft is currently testing a flag-activated option to bring the context menu options into the settings app. It is not entirely clear whether this would be instead of the context menu or in addition to it (apparently rather “instead”). An expansion of the settings app is definitely necessary because there are already some taskbar options there, it would certainly be helpful to have everything in one place.

The whole thing has only one small catch: users who are (temporarily) traveling with a non-activated Windows 10 version could no longer adjust the taskbar in this case. This is because personalization options are blocked when the operating system is not activated. It’s not a done deal anyway, so it’s just an experiment at the moment.
