Windows 11 Fills The System With Empty Temporary Folders

Windows 11 has been available for almost a month and offers numerous functional and visual innovations. However, there are also some bugs and strange behavior in the new Microsoft operating system, including a flood of empty temporary folders.

Windows 11 is new and is currently dividing the Windows world. Because many like the innovations, but some prefer to stick with the familiar Windows 10. However, both operating systems share a problem that, although it has no real impact on practice, is or can be anything but beautiful or intended.

Because as Born City reports, citing reader entries, Windows 11 “floods” the system profile directory with temporary folders. These start with “tw”, followed by a number/letter combination, and finally the ending “.tmp”. What makes it special: if you click into what’s in it, you will find exactly one thing: nothing. All folders – there were more than 800 such entries on our computer – are empty.

Twenty folders every day

In our case, 20 such folders are created each time the PC is started, but they are not deleted. The longer you have the computer in operation, the more such folders there are, in previous reports there were users who could find a five-digit number. Because the behavior is not new but also exists in Windows 10.

The application ProfTool.exe, which is a provisioning packet runtime processing tool, is responsible for this flood of folders. This is carried out when a network connection is established. However, it can be deactivated in the task scheduler under “Logon”.

To do this, open task planning and go to “Task planning (local)”. “Logon” can be found in the bottom window (“Active Tasks”), the associated storage location is Microsoft \ Windows \ Management \ Provisioning. You can get there by double-clicking and you can deactivate it by right-clicking on “Logon”. The empty temporary folders can then also be deleted.
