Windows 11 Keeps warning for “incompatible” PCs

Microsoft is sticking to the desktop watermarks that indicate incompatible hardware on Windows 11. Despite the official fix, users of older PCs are always informed that they do not currently meet the requirements of the new operating system. What started as an A/B test for Windows 11 insiders in the Dev channel in late February is soon to become a reality for the average consumer.

Like colleagues from Windows Latest report, the desktop watermarks, which are distinctive depending on the background image, have been noticed in the recently released optional update of the Release Preview channel. It can therefore be assumed that Microsoft has given its references to incompatible hardware RTM (Release to Manufacturing) status and that these will soon be found in a final version of Windows 11.

Users can hide watermarks with a “trick”.

The warning “System requirements not met” is displayed in the lower right corner of the desktop directly above the taskbar or the time. In the same place, Windows 11 users often find information about the Insider build being used or the warning when using a Windows license that has not yet been activated. The same notification also appears in the Settings app. To disable the desktop watermark, a few simple steps can be performed in the registry.

• Open the registry editor
• In the left pane, select the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER
• In the left pane, select the Control Panel folder
• Look for the entry UnsupportedHardwareNotificationCache
• Right click on change
• Replace the value 1 with the value 0
• Restart the PC

Despite this welcome “from the heart” tactic, Windows 11 users with incompatible hardware should be aware of Microsoft’s recent statements. Although those PCs have also been provided with updates so far, the Redmond company has always threatened to exclude them from future updates. In the long run, a hardware upgrade is recommended.

The sticking point for many older PCs that can run Windows 10 without any problems is the Windows 11 processor requirements. According to Microsoft, the installation requires at least AMD 2nd generation Ryzen CPUs (eg Ryzen 5 2xxx) or 8th generation Intel Core I chips (eg Core i5-8xxx). Likewise, TPM 2.0 and a UEFI BIOS as system firmware are basic Secure Boot requirements.
