It is the perennial favorite when it comes to the topic of problems and Windows and they should not be missing with Windows 11, version 22H2 either: the printer problems. Because there are currently errors and again this accessory does not do what it should.
The so-called PrintNightmare has been plaguing Windows systems and its users for a good year now. It is essentially about a vulnerability in the printer spooler. This is an essential service as it handles print jobs and the associated logs on servers and client PCs.
But there are apparently other or “fresh” printer problems: The developer Thomas Førde reports on Twitter (via Neowin) that its network printers have disappeared from the network after updating to the latest autumn or 22H2 update. He then tried to add the printers manually, but that didn’t work, including the error code 0x00000bc4. This usually indicates that an operation could not be completed.
After some investigation, Førde was able to find out the reason for this, apparently, his printer policy was set to an incorrect default value. More specifically, the settings for the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) connection must be set to the “RPC Over Named Pipes” transport protocol in order for the printers to be discoverable.
The colleagues have, however, discovered another printer problem, because in a support post Microsoft has documented that some printers only allow standard settings. This is due to the Microsoft IPP Class driver and the Universal Print Class driver. Devices that are or could be affected have been assigned an upgrade block to version 22H2. Users who are already affected should reinstall the printer including the driver as a workaround.
