Windows Server 2022: Microsoft adds support for WSL2

In June there will be a new, small but nice feature update for Windows Server 2022. Microsoft announced that it is adding support for the Windows subsystem for Linux WSL 2. Some improvements start at WSL 2. Microsoft had already announced WSL 2 in 2019 and currently offers it from Windows 10 Version 1903 (Build 18362) or later.

Windows Server 2022 is now also officially supported in the latest builds. announced that Microsoft in the update notes otherwise not yet – but it was noticed after the first users installed the optional update for Windows Server 2022. In addition, a Microsoft employee reported and confirmed the start.

Support for everyone will follow from June 14th

The optional updates serve as a preview of changes that will be automatically distributed to all users on the next patch day. In the case of server update KB5014021, build number 20348.740, the changes in the optional update should then be released as a cumulative update on June 14.

Currently, this update is only available to searchers and will be rolled out by default next month. In the future, WSL will be both on Windows Server and Windows Desktop SKUs.

Alternatively, the update is also available for manual installation in the Ready for Microsoft Update Catalog.
