With RTX graphics cards, Nvidia RTX Video HDR transforms SDR to HDR

Nvidia has published version 551.23 of GeForce Game Ready Driver, which includes a new feature for RTX-series graphics cards: RTX Video HDR. This feature uses artificial intelligence to transform SDR content to HDR content. In a video showcasing the capability, Nvidia states, “RTX Video HDR works on most streamed video.”

The Verge tested the feature and discovered that it works in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome most likely while streaming YouTube videos. They believe RTX Video HDR makes a difference. However, the difference was only visible when they turned the feature on and off several times. Of course, RTX Video HDR should function in games. To use this function, you’ll need an HDR-capable monitor. Furthermore, the user experience with this feature may vary significantly from monitor to monitor.

Nvidia also revealed RTX Video Super Resolution, a function that upscales material to improve sharpness and clarity. In February 2023, the corporation introduced such a feature. RTX Video HDR and RTX Video Super Resolution can work together to provide sharper, clearer, and more vibrant-looking material. To enable these capabilities, open the Nvidia Control Panel, navigate to Adjust Video Image Settings, and select Super Resolution and High Dynamic Range from the RTX video enhancement section.
