World’s Top 10 Chip Makers Revenue Ranking In 2020 Q2

Recently, TrendForce Research Institute of Industry has compiled the revenue and ranking of the world’s top ten IC design companies in the second quarter of 2020. Broadcom, Qualcomm, Nvidia, MediaTek, and AMD ranked in the top five. Among them, Broadcom’s revenue in the second quarter was 3.976 billion US dollars, although it was down 6.8% year-on-year, it still returned to the first place.

In the first quarter of this year, Qualcomm ranked first on the list, with revenue of $4.1 billion. However, Qualcomm’s revenue in the second quarter fell from the previous quarter to 3.807 billion U.S. dollars, and the ranking was surpassed by Broadcom. The industry believes that the slowdown in Qualcomm’s chip revenue growth in the second quarter was due to the delayed launch of Apple’s new device. Usually, Apple will release a new device in the third quarter and advance the second quarter revenue performance of Qualcomm.

Interestingly, Qualcomm has now announced to launch its mid-range chip series in 2021 which could regain a handsome market share, it is also speculated that Qualcomm would remain at the top in 2021. It is worth noting that China Taiwan IC design company MediaTek and Realtek Semiconductor both rank among the top ten, but there is still a big gap between the top five. Among them, MediaTek’s second-quarter revenue was US$622 million, an increase of 18.1% year-on-year; Realtek’s second-quarter revenue was US$579 million, an increase of 18.8% year-on-year, showing more significant progress.
