Worse than expected: Microsoft Teams is experiencing outages worldwide

The disruption in Microsoft 365 services is probably more extensive than previously thought. While initially there was only talk of regional performance impairments, teams at least are affected by complete failures almost worldwide.

Connections simply break down

Microsoft is currently investigating a glitch in Teams that is causing issues with online meetings in several regions. Affected users report that they are unable to join meetings or that existing conversations unexpectedly end. Microsoft has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation. According to information in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, the error is listed as TM1437780. According to Microsoft, users either cannot connect to Teams meetings or calls in progress suddenly lose connection. The company is currently assessing the extent of the disruption and wants to provide regular updates on progress. A cause for the problems has not yet been named.

In the status report, Microsoft explains that it is currently investigating why users are prevented from participating in Teams meetings or are losing connections during an ongoing conversation. Administrators should receive further information within a short period of time. The status of the incident is currently listed as “investigation.” Parallel to the official information, reports from the user community are increasing. For the time being, affected users will probably only have to wait for a fix from Microsoft. It is currently unclear when the disruption will be completely eliminated. The company has neither named a technical cause nor published a time frame for fixing the problem. The current problems also come directly after a major outage of Microsoft 365 last night. Microsoft has not yet confirmed whether there is a connection between the two incidents. Update: Microsoft now reports: “Further analysis revealed that a recent change related to our ongoing efforts to improve service resiliency has overloaded our traffic management processes and caused disruption. Service is now restored. However, users whose calls and meetings were previously affected may need to stop and restart to ensure full recovery.”
