Samsung’s latest One UI 6.1.1 update has triggered major concerns among Galaxy S22 owners, with reports surfacing about the firmware bricking a significant number of devices. The issue predominantly affects models powered by the Exynos 2200 chipset, which are sold in Europe and parts of Asia. Despite growing complaints, Samsung has yet to offer an official statement or solution.

The One UI 6.1.1 update, based on Android 14, was first introduced in September 2024 as part of Samsung’s rollout for its flagship smartphones. However, this wasn’t the first update to cause controversy. Earlier in the year, Samsung had to pull the initial One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S22 due to a slew of bugs. Now, the follow-up version seems to have worsened the situation.

Widespread Reports of Faulty Devices

Many Galaxy S22 owners report that their devices become completely unresponsive after installing the update. Attempts to reboot lead to no resolution, effectively turning the phones into unusable “bricks.” Those who have reached out to Samsung’s support team have received troubling news—affected devices need motherboard replacements, which come at a significant cost since most of these phones are now out of warranty.

For users whose phones have not completely bricked, performance issues persist. Complaints of random restarts, crashes, and overheating are widely documented on Samsung’s support forums and social media platforms. Frustrated owners have expressed concern over the lack of acknowledgment or a clear fix from the company.

Issues Linked to Exynos Models

The bricking problem seems exclusive to Galaxy S22 devices with the Exynos 2200 chipset. These models are common in markets such as Europe and Asia. Meanwhile, Galaxy S22 phones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, primarily sold in the United States, appear unaffected by the firmware debacle.
