X wants to Resume In Brazil but transfers the fine to the wrong account

The social platform X/Twitter has given in to the dispute with the Brazilian judiciary – but the block has not yet been lifted. As it turned out, however, this was due to sloppiness on the part of their own lawyers.

Nothing happens without moss

As Brazil’s Supreme Court announced, the company’s representatives simply transferred the outstanding fine to an incorrect account. This delays the decision on whether the platform will be allowed to resume services in Brazil, the news agency reported Reuters. Payment of the fines is the last outstanding condition that the court requires of X to authorize operations in Brazil again. The platform has been blocked since late August after the company repeatedly violated court orders to moderate hate speech and failed to appoint a legal representative in the country as required by law.

On Friday, X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, filed a new application to resume its services in Brazil. In this, the company stated that all outstanding fines had been paid. However, the judge in charge of the Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes, requested that the payment be transferred to the correct bank account.

Users are gone

Feedback should also be obtained from the public prosecutor’s office, which is also involved in the case. The X lawyers, however, explained that the payments were by no means made to a wrong account. From their point of view, it is also unnecessary to consult the public prosecutor’s office again.

At first, The child may now have fallen into the well: As a result of the shutdown, numerous Brazilian users switched to alternatives – the Twitter clone BlueSky recorded a massive increase in new users from Brazil. It is questionable whether these users will ever return.
