Xiaomi Eyes 100 million Smartphones Sales As Growth Continues In 2nd Quarter

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has witnessed strong growth in the previous two quarters, The sales were up by 70% in the previous quarter. Xiaomi shipped 23.16 million devices in the second quarter.

CEO Lei Jun said, the company is setting a target to ship over 100 million smartphones worldwide. Xiaomi hit the records in the previous quarter all-time high, indicates the growing popularity of the brand worldwide according to the report.

Xiaomi has gaining the sales momentum back again after two years, “Necessary adjustments” were needed in output scalability, Lei said. The biggest challenge Xiaomi has face since it was launched, the production capacity was shrunk as demand grew but the previous quarter shipments indicated the level has improved significantly, he added.

The company is planning to expand in the home country and abroad simultaneously, this could be another bigger challenge for Xiaomi, besides its online sales channels in China, Xiaomi has been able to open 123 brick-and-mortar stores across the country. The expansion within the home country is achieved to some extent but global market need more efforts.

Xiaomi’s revenues has increased globally, there was 328% increase in Indian market during the first half, for the same period last year. The market share in India has also improved phenomenally securing the second place in the market. Lei said, Russia, Ukraine and Indonesia are also the key markets for the company and next focus would be on those markets.

Lei also announced new job openings in the company next year intend to employ research and development talent with 1000 positions.

According to IDC Xiaomi shipped a total of 9.3 million mobile devices in China during the first quarter of 2017, securing 9% of market share, Xiaomi was ranked at fifth behind Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Apple.
