Xiaomi Mi Mix Flip Renders Leaked

In April this year, Xiaomi launched the first new folding screen MIX Fold in China. The shape is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, which uses a flexible screen that folds inward and can be used as a tablet when spread out. After that, a number of new design patents for the company’s folding screen smartphone have been revealed on the web. Sources say Xiaomi may launch two more foldable models by the end of 2021.

One of the new Xiaomi folding screen models is said to resemble the Huawei Mate Xs, while the other resembles the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Moto Razr. While many are calling the latter the Mi MIX Flip, there are also reports that it will be called the Mi MIX Flex.

To help make sense of the two design patents announced last week, Dutch tech blog LetsGoDigital has teamed up with graphic designer Technizo Concept to create a series of 3D renders based on the two patent applications filed in Central Europe.

The similarity between the two new folding screen designs is that Xiaomi has adopted a front-facing perforated dual camera solution for the flip phone, located in the upper left corner of the flexible screen. The screen bezel thickness is much wider than what we see on regular full-screen smartphones and is slightly thicker even compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Moto Razr. As to whether Xiaomi will use a Sweeper system similar to Samsung’s in order to remove dust and dirt, it is not known at this time.

Although it is not clear the screen size and other details, outsiders still speculate that the MIX Fold will use between 6.5-7 inches of the main screen, and even expected to use the UTG ultra-thin protective glass. But with reference to the Moto Razr 5G and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3’s 6.2/6.7 inches, Xiaomi should prefer to be closer to the latter, after all, the Mi MIX Fold already has an 8-inch internal screen.

The two new Xiaomi folding screen models have almost identical designs such as ports and buttons. The solid power/volume adjustment button is located on the right side of the body, and Xiaomi may have integrated the fingerprint sensor into the power button. At the bottom is the SIM card slot, USB-C charging/data port, as well as speaker and microphone. As to whether microSD storage expansion options will be available, it is speculated that the MIX Flip is still more likely to adopt that.

It is also reported that lower-priced Mi MIX Flip is unlikely to have a telephoto lens like the Mi MIX Fold (108M wide-angle primary + 13MP ultra-wide + 8MP macro/telephoto lens).
