Xiaomi is also putting pressure on Samsung in Europe when it comes to foldable smartphones. According to a spokesperson for the Chinese manufacturer, the Mix Flip, Xiaomi’s first foldable phone with a vertically foldable display, will also be launched in Europe. It won’t be cheap. Xiaomi

Xiaomi offers foldable in flip format for the first time

Last week, Xiaomi introduced the foldable Mix Flip, bringing its first smartphone with a foldable display onto the market, which can be opened vertically like a classic flip phone. With the Mix Flip, the company’s own foldables will now officially be launched in Europe for the first time, after the flagship model Xiaomi Mix Fold was only sold in China for years. In an interview with the magazine MobileBulgaria Nikolai Nankov, the country manager responsible for Xiaomi’s business in Bulgaria, said that the Xiaomi Mix Flip will be launched in the Eastern European country within the next few weeks. Nankov stated that sales will start after August 15, 2024, and mentioned a price of around 2,600 Lev, which would be almost exactly 1,300 Euros.

The fact that Xiaomi would also introduce its Mix Flip in Europe was already indicated during the recent market launch by providing some western media with test devices. Chinese manufacturers usually refrain from such a step if there are no plans to launch the respective product outside of China. The Xiaomi Mix Flip has a nearly 6.9 inch (17.53 cm) foldable OLED display as the main screen, which can reach a maximum brightness of up to 3000 candelas and works with a maximum refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz. On the outside there is a cover display with a four inch diagonal, in which the two main cameras of the Mix Flip are embedded.

One of Xiaomi’s advertising features is that the external display can be used for many tasks without having to open the smartphone. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the latest high-end SoC from the US chip giant. For the cameras, Xiaomi relies on a main sensor with 50 megapixels that offers phase detection autofocus and an optical image stabilizer, as well as a zoom camera with two-fold magnification, which also uses a 50 MP sensor. Xiaomi has also given the device an extremely large battery for a flip-foldable with almost 4800 mAh. The Xiaomi Mix Flip is available in China in three storage variants with 12 or 16 gigabytes of RAM and 256 or 512 GB or one terabyte of internal flash memory. It is still unclear which of these storage variants will launch in Europe.
