Its called “peer-to-peer transmission alliance”, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo today announced a partnership that will eventually provide new wireless file transfer system to all device holders across the world.
All three Chinese mobile giants have developed a new file transfer system, the initiative named “Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance” enables seamless cross-brand file sharing/transfer with just one click. The Chinese manufacturers are focused on making file sharing easier and innovative with this new system.
“The new system will remove the dependence on any mobile apps or network data to transfer files and data including images, videos, music, documents and more from one device to another.”
The move is also seen in anticipation of 5G adoption which significantly increases the file sizes with the availability of rich and varied content.
Xiaomi, Vivi, and Oppo all share strong and common user base, the partnership will benefit the consumers across the globe. According to Spark Ni, Senior Vice President of Vivo, “The partnership reinforces our commitment to bring fast, reliable, secure and topnotch mobile experience to our customers by making it easier and seamless for users, we will continue to introduce more strategic partnerships like this to bring ease for customers globally.”
Instant connection with low power consumption
The wireless file transfer on cross-brand devices doesn’t require an internet connection or a 3rd party mobile app, the system uses Bluetooth for fast pairing and WiFi P2P technology for data transfer, which brings instant, stable and high-speed connection between the devices, it also consumes low power. According to the press release, the average file transfer speed is 20MB/s along with an uninterrupted WiFi connection during the file transfer process.
The process of file sharing is simple and user-friendly, users will have to turn-on their WiFi and Bluetooth under the “Menu” then select the files for transfer if the other party has also turned on their Bluetooth and WiFi, an icon will pop-up to notify the user for file transfer, once the user confirms the files would be transferred.
Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo have also opened doors for other brands to join the ecosystem of file sharing, the companies said they will continue to collaborate to deliver new technological breakthroughs.
Rollout
The new file transfer feature would be rolled out on new Vivo devices in various markets from February 2020.
Concerns
Though it seems too good for users as it provides file sharing on cross-devices without needing an internet connection and 3rd party mobile app, it raises concerns for Telecoms and Mobile app developers along with some security concerns for users. The Bluetooth attack can silently hack the phones, devices and WiFi’s using sophisticated hacking techniques, experts have raised security concerns over the file-sharing system which could affect millions of devices around the globe.
