Xiaomi Plans To Produce 300,000 Electric Cars Per Year At Beijing Plant

The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi apparently does not want to mess with its new e-car project, but rather blob: As it is now internally in an information letter, the first factory near Beijing is to produce around 300,000 vehicles per year. More are planned.

This is reported by the Reuters news agency. According to the report, Xiaomi plans to build a factory near Beijing that can produce 300,000 electric vehicles a year. The company’s CEO, Lei Jun, said in October that he hoped the company would be able to mass-produce electric vehicles by 2024 .

New headquarters for Sales And R&D

The news about the Beijing plant was announced on the official WeChat account by Beijing E-Town, according to Reuters. The factory is to be built in two phases – details have not yet been given. Xiaomi also plans to build its EV headquarters, sales, and research offices in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone.

The information comes from internal sources and was not intended for the public – an official announcement is pending. What Xiaomi confirmed in March: around 10 billion dollars are to be invested in a new electric car department over the next ten years. Xiaomi got the ball rolling in August after completing the establishment of the independent electric car division.

With its electric car division, Xiaomi will compete against companies like Tesla and Xpeng. China is currently the largest growth market for electric cars, so Xiaomi, as a local company, should do quite well there. International plans are not yet known. Should the company decide to offer its vehicles worldwide, factors such as quality and brand reputation will be a major hurdle.
