The video platform YouTube is testing a new function in connection with videos with a chapter function and a timeline. The first iOS users can now submit “time-sensitive” comments in the beta test – for example, to ask questions about certain sections of the video.
In the beta version of the iOS YouTube app, the new feature is called “Timestamp Comment“. You can use it to enter your comment on a specific video section and not just simply put your message under the video in general. Other users then see these time-sensitive comments dynamically under the video. With this, YouTube is expanding the timestamp options that have been around for a long time.
Users who get to see the new function in the metaphase are first asked whether they want to see the new dynamic comments or whether they want to use the classic view. As is so often the case, the test is limited to a smaller number of users and is only gradually released for other users.
The function is currently only being tested on the iPhone. The rollout has been going on for a few days, and anyone who uses the iOS app could soon also test it. Google has not yet revealed much background information on this, but Android users will probably soon be able to try out the new comments as well. As it is said, the timestamp comments should first be tested and improved with the feedback from the users. Then starting in the web browser, for example on the PC or tablet, is also considered.
The new timestamp feature is one of the improvements that YouTube plans to implement later this year. In addition, the service recently revised the dislike function and stopped the possibility of mass ratings.
