Xiaomi reveals its most sophisticated facility to date
Xiaomi has crossed a significant milestone in its history today. The company’s founder today announced the opening of its new smart factory in Changping, Beijing. It is the company’s first large-scale, self-owned manufacturing facility. Reportedly, the new facility is capable of manufacturing 10 million flagship smartphones per year.
Well, this news is announced just a few days before the official launch of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The high-end product of the Xiaomi 14 series is set to launch on February 22nd. According to Lei Jun, the innovative technologies of the Xiaomi 14 Bay Blue and the 14 Ultra were validated in the new factory.
The unique attribute of this facility is that for component testing and packaging equipment, it features a confounding 96.8% self-developed rate. It boasts a 100% rate for factory software. These significant improvements pave the way for a highly automated and digitized production process. Such a production process can self-analyze and make decisions in real-time. In simple words, Xiaomi’s new facility can grow on its own keeping up with consistent quality and efficiency.
Well, this is not the company’s first smart manufacturing unit. The company’s first intelligent factory, which is situated in Beijing Yizhuang, began operations in late 2019. In contrast, the Changping plant is ten times larger than its predecessor and includes a second-generation intelligent smartphone production line. It is known for operations like circuit board mounting, testing, final assembly, packaging, and shipping. It has a huge 60 billion yuan annual output value.
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra, on the other hand, is anticipated to feature a Sony LYT900 main camera with OIS and a variable aperture of up to f1.6. It will be accompanied with a 50MP ultrawide, a 50MP telephoto, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens. It will feature a flat back and a titanium frame. The smartphone is reported to feature a 6.73-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor paired with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It packs a 5,300mAh battery with fast charging.
