You can now make 1080p video calls using Google Meet

Over the course of the past few months, several new updates and features have been introduced to Google Meet. As of now, the company has announced that the resolution of video calls on Google Meet is going to be improved. Google shared in a blog post that now users will have access to 1080p resolution video calls. Previously, the platform offered 720p resolution.

Given the new update users can now enjoy HD video calling experience. back in February, the company added 360-degree background and in-call emoji reactions to Google Meet. Recently, it introduced a blocking feature for presenters who can turn off the video feeds of other participants. Now, the company is adding another feature that will enable users to enjoy an improved calling experience in 1080p HD resolution.

By default, the 1080p video calling feature is turned off on Google Meet

One thing to notice here is that the latest feature is not available to regular and personal Google accounts. It is accessible to Google One subscribers with 2TB or more storage space. It seems like it is essentially directed at Business and Enterprise users. before using this feature, make sure your device supports a 1080p camera. followed by this, turn on the feature manually. Users will receive an on-screen message that will enable them to activate the feature when they enter a meeting.

In addition to this, the feature is not available for Workspace Essentials, Education Fundamentals accounts, Business Starter, or other users. with this update, Google Meet enters the list along with Microsoft Teams and Zoom. However, they also don’t offer 1080p video calls by default. The company is rolling out the feature in gradual phases. It will be available to everyone by May 4.
