You Will Not Be Able To Login To Google On Old Android Devices From September

Google will start a new security measure for Google accounts and old Android devices in September. Users who are still using Android 2.3.7 alias Gingerbread and older can no longer log in to their Google accounts.

This is reported by the online magazine Bleeping Computer. Google has started writing to users with older Android devices. Google is now informing Android users by email that from the end of September they will no longer be able to log into their Google account on devices with Android 2.3.7 and older for security reasons. It says:

Old Device is blocked by Google services

“As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of our users, Google will no longer allow logins on Android devices with Android 2.3.7 or lower from September 27, 2021,” explains Android Help Community Manager Zak Pollack. “If you sign in to your device after September 27th, you may encounter errors entering your username or password when trying to use Google products and services such as Gmail, YouTube, and Maps.”

So Google will draw a line from September – but that should only affect very few users. Android 2.3.7 was released at the end of 2011, so it is now almost a decade old. Google is now one of the last service providers to officially discontinue support for the outdated Android versions. According to Google, those who actually still operate devices with these old OS versions should update to newer Android versions (3.0 or higher) as soon as possible so that they do not lose access to Google apps and services.

Alternatively, those unable to upgrade to newer Android versions can try logging into their Google accounts using a web browser, which gives them an alternative way to use Google services on unsupported Android devices.
