You will soon be able to turn off link previews in WhatsApp
When you paste a link to a webpage into the text input field in the latest version of WhatsApp for Android, the app loads a preview of the webpage, displaying its title, description, and thumbnail. When you send a message, the preview is also shown to the recipient in addition to the link.
Some people find it annoying when someone sends a chat window that only shows a portion of the webpage and doesn’t display the link in its entirety. WhatsApp allows you to take the preview out for those users. It could become tedious, though, to have to erase the preview each time you paste a link. WhatsApp is currently working to address that.
The most recent beta version of WhatsApp for Android (2.24.7.12) includes a new feature named “Disable link previews,” per a recent report from WABetaInfo. Once you turn this feature on, WhatsApp won’t load link previews, saving you the trouble of having to erase the preview each time you paste a link into the text field.
Enabling the “Disable link previews” option under Settings » Privacy » Advanced will allow you to utilize the new feature. There is currently no information available regarding when WhatsApp will add the feature to the app’s stable version. Having said that, we anticipate the corporation releasing it to the general public over the next few weeks.
