Email Address Verification arrives on WhatsApp for Account Authentication
A few days ago, we learned that soon Meta’s messaging platform will receive email verification. Well, the feature is now ready to be rolled out. In situations where cellular service is inconsistent, WhatsApp users can now verify their account on a smartphone using an email address instead of a phone number. One thing to notice here is that linking a WhatsApp account with an email doesn’t mean that SMS verification is no longer required. When opening a new account on WhatsApp, the six-digit PIN code is still required. In simple words, there must be a phone number associated with a WhatsApp account.
How to activate email verification?
However, current customers can now verify their account on a device with an internet connection using email verification, even in the event that their cellular coverage is not found. The new feature was discovered in version 23.24.70 of WhatsApp for iOS in the App Store by WABetaInfo. In order to activate the new feature, go to Settings, tap on Account, and select the Email Address option.
Another feature is under development
Besides this feature, the company is also testing the username feature. Such a feature will improve privacy and security while chatting with others on the app. It is currently in the development stage and there is no information on when it will be ready to be rolled out. However, it’s possible that the messaging app, like Telegram, aims to allow users to contact others by entering a username rather than a phone number.
