The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has been circulating in the rumor mill for months and, as in recent years, is intended to be a kind of “fan edition” for all those customers who find Samsung’s current top models attractive but are not prepared to pay the high prices of the models launched in the spring. With prices starting at 649.99 US dollars and probably 749 euros in Europe, the Galaxy S24 FE is also much more affordable.
As expected, the new model in the FE smartphone series is doing a few things differently this year. According to a website published in advance by Samsung USA, which lists all the details of the new high-end model at a “discount price”, the Galaxy S24 FE will, among other things, have a significantly larger 6.7-inch SuperAMOLED display than its predecessor.
The new panel offers, among other things, a full HD resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz, as well as a significantly increased maximum brightness compared to the previous model, thanks to which it should also be easy to read outdoors. Under the hood, as Samsung’s US website confirms, is not a Snapdragon SoC from Qualcomm, but the Samsung Exynos 2400e.
This is a slightly slower version of the current top chip from Samsung’s own production, which is also used in the Galaxy S24 and S24+ in Germany. The only known difference so far is a slightly reduced maximum clock speed of “only” up to 3.1 gigahertz (instead of 3.2 GHz). There are also eight gigabytes of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal flash memory on board.
According to Samsung’s website, the camera system consists of a main camera with a 50-megapixel sensor, optical image stabilizer and F/1.8 aperture, an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 12-megapixel sensor and a zoom camera with eight megapixels and three times optical magnification. This is probably where Samsung is making the most significant savings compared to the normal S24 models, as they all offer better camera equipment.
Incidentally, there is a 10 MP camera at the front for self-portraits. The only thing that Samsung’s US website does not yet provide any details about is the battery. According to previous leaks, the power storage here will be 4600mAh. Samsung itself only says that the device should enable up to 28 hours of video playback.
For the USA, the manufacturer has given a recommended price of $649.99 for the version with 128 GB storage and offers variants in the colors graphite, gray, blue and mint. Availability should be available on October 3, 2024, it continues. For Europe, it was recently heard that the S24 FE in the 128 GB version costs 749.99 euros, while the 256 GB version will start at 819.99 euros.
