Price shock in Europe: Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 tablets significantly more expensive

In the memory crisis, Samsung is significantly increasing the prices for the upcoming Galaxy Tab S12 series. If you want to buy the new high-end tablets, you have to invest at least 400 euros more. This is also because the basic model is no longer available.
Elimination of the basic model increases the entry price
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 will not exist. While Samsung skipped the Plus version last year, it is returning this year in the form of the Galaxy Tab S12+, while the basic model has been omitted. In addition to the significantly increased storage costs, this step also means that you have to invest significantly more for Samsung’s premium tablets.
According to dealer information we have, Samsung will charge at least 1,299 euros in Europe for the cheapest edition of the Galaxy Tab S12+ without 5G with 256 gigabytes of internal flash storage and 12 gigabytes of RAM. The basic model of the Galaxy Tab S11 started at 899 euros and was not a bargain back then.
Ultra model is 200 euros more expensive
A comparison with the Galaxy Tab S10+, which was released two years ago, also makes the price increase clear. This model once started for 1119 euros in the basic version and was therefore 180 euros cheaper. If you want to own the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12+ with 5G, you will have to pay a surcharge of 150 euros. The prices of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra also rise significantly. While the cheapest version of the previous model cost 1,339 euros when it launched, the Wi-Fi version with 256 GB of storage now costs a full 1,539 euros. Here too, the customer pays 150 euros more if the 5G modem is to be activated.
At least 200 euros extra for double storage
For both new Tab S12 models, the prices for the models with more memory are rising more than before. As with Samsung’s current upper-class smartphones, the costs with an internal flash memory doubled to 512 GB cost significantly more than with the previous versions: a full 200 euros are due, which means that the Galaxy Tab S12+ with 512 GB costs at least 1,499 euros, while the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra with 512 GB even demands 1,739 euros.
The prices of the also expected variants with a terabyte of internal memory and 16 gigabytes of RAM are now likely to approach the 2000 euro mark or, in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, even exceed it. However, we do not yet have any price information from Europe for these editions. In the USA, however, the Ultra with WLAN and 16GB/1TB storage capacity already costs exactly 2000 dollars (around 1866 euros), as we previously learned. There is currently only sparse information available about the technical data of the tablets in the Galaxy Tab S12 series.
What is certain is that Samsung will upgrade to the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, while the screens will again offer OLED panels with 12.4 and 14.6 inch diagonals. When they launch, expected in the next few weeks, the devices will be available in silver and gray and will again bring support for the Samsung S Pen stylus.
