Microsoft Introduces Multiplayer Sessions for Xbox Cloud Gaming

If you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you’re probably familiar with the cloud gaming feature that comes with it. Microsoft has been working hard to enhance the cloud gaming experience, even allowing you to stream games you physically own. Now, they’ve taken things a step further by introducing a new feature: multiplayer sessions for cloud-based games.

How It Works

As detailed in the Xbox Wire, Xbox Cloud Gaming now lets you invite friends to join your gaming session. However, there’s a catch—everyone participating must also be a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber.

If your friends are signed up, the process to get started is simple:

  • While playing a multiplayer game on Xbox Cloud Gaming, open the game invite menu through the Guide or in-game.
  • Look for the “Anyone” tab, create an invite link, and send it to your friends.

Your friends then have two ways to join:

  1. On a compatible device like a PC, laptop, or smartphone, they can click the link and join the session directly through their web browser.
  2. On devices like a smart TV where links can’t be clicked, they can open the link on another device, choose the option to connect via another device, and enter the provided code into the Xbox Guide on their TV.

Keep in mind the number of people you can invite depends on how many players the game supports. Also, everyone invited needs the proper entitlements to play the game, so double-check that before you start gaming.

If you haven’t already, you should check out this browser plugin that’s a must-have for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

With this new feature, Microsoft is making cloud gaming more social and accessible than ever. So, grab your friends and jump into your next multiplayer adventure!
