From the RTX 5090? Nvidia is removing the card from its US marketplace

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 is increasingly disappearing from the market. After a US retailer removed the model from its range, Nvidia is now also removing the graphics card from the marketplace on its own US website. Prices are rising noticeably in Germany.
End of the GPU flagship?
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 is apparently about to end. The first signs appeared in mid-September when the card suddenly became extremely expensive in the USA. Then US dealers suddenly only sold the GPU upon presentation of ID. Finally, reports began circulating that the built-in chip GB202 would only be used in professional graphics cards in the future. Now Nvidia itself has taken a step that may confirm the end of the RTX 5090. The manufacturer has removed its current top model for end customers from the marketplace on its official US website. Buying a new one could soon become almost impossible for PC users. The card is still listed in Germany, but prices are already rising noticeably here too.
Reports VideoCardz The board partners should no longer receive new quotas of the installed GB202 graphics chip. The manufacturers can therefore only produce as long as the supply of chips that have already been delivered lasts. Nvidia should instead reserve future batches for professional workstation and AI cards.
Focus on professional graphics cards
The chips that are released should flow into models like the RTX Pro 5500. With 21,760 computing units, this professional graphics card offers exactly the same number of CUDA cores as the GeForce RTX 5090. However, it is equipped with 84 gigabytes of GDDR7 ECC memory, while the consumer model has 32 gigabytes. Nvidia can achieve much higher margins with pro hardware in the enterprise market than with GeForce variants for gamers.
The declining availability is already having noticeable consequences for customers in Europe. While the reference price in Germany was still 3,400 euros in January 2026, the starting price for cards that are still available recently climbed to almost 6,700 euros. Some remaining cards are already on the Marketplace of the German Nvidia site traded for up to 10,000 euros.
A possible successor
An official confirmation of the discontinuation from Nvidia is still pending. The model is currently still listed on the general product page. According to rumors, the GeForce RTX 5080 with 24 gigabytes of video memory and the smaller GB203 chip could take over the role of the new gaming flagship as early as the first quarter of 2027. But that is not guaranteed either. Meanwhile, rumors are circulating about the RTX 6000 series launching in the first quarter of 2027. However, given the current market situation, this seems rather unlikely.
