Netflix trial subscription: The free trial period is back in Germany
Netflix is offering free trial subscriptions again in Germany after almost six years. The offer is aimed exclusively at people without a previous account and appears on the homepage of eligible new customers.
Free trial period returns
The streaming service is reacting to slower user growth and wants to attract new target groups. Netflix currently has more than 325 million paying subscribers worldwide. However, streaming viewing time recently increased by less than two percent. The company is therefore testing new advertising strategies. The trial month, which was abolished in 2020, is being tested again after discounted introductory offers previously had no lasting effect.
Duration of the test phase varies
As PC games reported, an algorithm determines the duration of the test phase. Depending on browser, location or cookies, users receive seven, 14 or 30 days of free access. According to reports, deleting browsing data before registering can increase the chance of a longer period of time. The prerequisite is that you provide a valid means of payment. If you do not cancel in time, the trial subscription will automatically switch to a paid model, starting with the ad-financed standard tariff. The test offers access to the respective regional catalog with up to 10,000 titles.
Try out series and games
During the test phase, productions such as “Stranger Things”, “Daredevil” or “Money Heist” can be watched at no additional cost. Netflix is also expanding its offering to include video games. Subscribers can play select mobile games without additional fees or in-app purchases. Netflix continues to invest large amounts of money in its own productions in order to survive in the competition. Whether the test phase remains permanent depends on internal evaluations.
