Pressure to save: Samsung Galaxy S27 with less and slower memory?

Recently there have been repeated rumors that Samsung could use less RAM, at least in the cheaper models of the Galaxy S27 series smartphones. The electronics giant is said to be currently reviewing its options.
Base models with less RAM than the S26?
The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S27 and its more expensive sister models is generally expected to be slightly earlier than the previous models. Most recently there was talk of a presentation towards the end of January or the beginning of 2027. However, in view of the memory crisis that the company helped cause, Samsung is considering making compromises when it comes to equipment. As SammyFans citing an X/Twitter post from a user named “cro” reports, Samsung could, at least for the base model Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27 Plus, take a step back towards a basic configuration with just eight gigabytes of RAM. For the newly added Galaxy S27 Pro and the large Galaxy S27 Ultra, however, 12 gigabytes of RAM are likely to be the minimum configuration again.
Differences in storage standards are also possible
It is also supposedly conceivable that Samsung only provides the basic model with eight GB of RAM. The versions with 256 GB of internal flash storage could therefore come with eight GB of RAM, while the more expensive 512 GB model would come with 12 GB of RAM. However, nothing is set in stone in this regard, especially since it is speculation from more or less trustworthy sources. There could also be savings opportunities for Samsung in the type of memory chips used.
Aside from the S27 Pro or Ultra, the company could rely on LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 4.0 flash, while the more expensive versions could be equipped with LPDDR6 RAM and flash memory with a UFS 5.0 connection. According to recently published reports, Samsung has not yet decided what memory configuration the new top models of the S27 series will have. However, the first definitive statements about the configuration of the devices should be known within the next month, as the launch is only three months away.
