Pixel Watch: Massive battery problems affect four generations
There are currently increasing reports of unusually high battery consumption on the Google Pixel Watch. Apparently several generations of the smartwatch are affected, reports concern the Pixel Watch 2, 3, 4 and 5 models.
Empty faster than expected
Users report significantly shorter runtimes, both during the day and in standby mode overnight. A cause for the problem is not yet known. Like US Magazine Android Authority Citing discussions on Reddit, owners of different Pixel Watch generations report similar difficulties. The battery life sometimes fluctuates considerably and for some users it is significantly worse than usual. Since several model series are affected at once, there is a possible software problem. However, a connection with a specific update has not yet been confirmed.
The Pixel Watch isn’t known for its particularly long battery life, but it should last at least a day with normal use. The sudden increase in consumption is correspondingly annoying for the owners. However, not all users seem to be affected. The discussions also include reports from users whose watches continue to work without any problems. Google has since been contacted for comment. The company then announced that it was working on a solution. As is almost usual, it was pointed out that only a small proportion of customers were affected.
Sometimes a restart helps
Those affected can first try restarting their smartwatch. If that doesn’t help, a further measure to consider is a reset to the factory settings. However, both steps are not guaranteed solutions. Users should also check their settings: Individual functions and permanently active background processes can noticeably increase energy consumption. It is not new that a software problem can massively affect the battery life of the Pixel Watch.
As early as 2024, smartwatch owners had to contend with a comparable phenomenon. At that time, a faulty update led to unusually high power consumption. Even at that time, it was initially difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. Only a subsequent update finally brought relief. If the current incident can also be traced back to a software error, Google could fix the problem with an update. Until then, affected users must first resort to possible interim solutions.
