You Can Now Transfer Photos from iCloud to Google Photos

Apple users can now transfer copies of their media files to Google Photos; it takes 3 to 7 days to transfer the data.

Apple introduces a new tool for users to transfer photos from iCloud to other services; Google Photos is first in the line.

The company announced this update in a support document and said users could “Transfer a copy of your data”. There’s an option on Apple’s privacy website that can be used to transfer iCloud media content to Google Photos.

The transferring process will not delete any content from iCloud; it just transfers a copy of photos and videos to Google Photos. This update from Apple is helpful both for transferring services and backup purposes.

However, there’s a limitation; only the most recent edit of a photo is transferred. Smart Albums, Live Photos, photo stream content, and other format types aren’t currently supported. Furthermore, videos are transferred separately, while photos will likely be transferred together.

To use the facility, users would be required a two-factor authentication on their Apple ID and a Google Photos account. The transfer takes between three and seven days.

As of now, the service is currently available in Australia, Canada, the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, the UK, and the US, and it can be accessed online on Apple’s privacy webpage.
