According to Samsung, the Micro OLED panels will enter the market after 3-4 years

In an effort to maintain its dominance in the OLED displays market, the South Korean conglomerate Samsung is working on a new production line. Reportedly, the company is putting in huge investments in the OLED displays. Well, this is quite an obvious move since the Chinese display manufacturers are also advancing in this specific market.

According to reports, Samsung has begun working on its 8.6-generation OLED manufacturing line. It is going to be the company’s most advanced OLED display production line. This year, the company plans to install the major equipment. However, the full-scale mass production will begin at some point in 2026.

In 2023, it was announced that the company will invest $3 billion in the new OLED production line. Reportedly, each 8.6-generation OLED substrates measures 2,620 x 2,200mm. These substrates would then be transformed into various-sized OLED screens for usage in laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

On the other hand, the current L8 line in Asan is being converted into A6 line. It will be sued for the production of 8.6-generation OLED substrates. Just in time to supply the panels for Apple’s first OLED iPad, the business anticipates starting mass manufacturing by 2026. An estimated 10 million panels can be produced annually using this capacity.

When it comes to OLED orders, Samsung is not the only company that is advancing things on tis end. According to reports, China’s BOE is investing $9 billion in a new 8.6-generation OLED manufacturing plant. With this move, BOE and Samsung will directly compete with one another for grabbing the orders for OLED MacBooks and iPads.

It is estimated that the global OLED market will substantially grow in the future. Although the competition from China is going to be tough, the increased demand will maintain steady prices. The Chinese manufacturers, on the other hand, can sacrifice margins for the sake of market share.
