Alibaba is going to introduce a rival for ChatGPT

As per the latest report from BBC, the Chinese tech giant Alibaba is all set to make its appearance in the AI lobby by introducing a rival for ChatGPT. Previously, some tech leaders have warned regarding the massive growth of AI. Despite this, more and more companies and businesses are stepping into this field. It all begins with Bing and Bard by Microsoft and Google. Now, Alibaba is the next in the queue that will develop a ChatGPT-style chatbot.

According to the information the AI product by Alibaba is named Tongyi Qianwen. Eventually, it will be incorporated into the company’s business. There is no information regarding the release timeline. However, the company reports that it will soon be released in both English and Chinese languages. Daniel Zhang, the chairman, and CEO of Alibaba, has previously stated that artificial intelligence and cloud computing are the driving forces behind the current technological watershed.

Chinese companies tend to develop a local version of Western services. so this is not something strange. It is the government policies that have limited Western companies from working in China. As Alibaba is a Chinese tech giant, it can’t use a Western-backed AI product.

Initially, Tongyi Qianwen would be incorporated into DingTalk (Alibaba’s workplace messaging app). The company declares that the chatbot can perform several functions like drafting business proposals, changing conversations in meetings into notes, as well as write emails. Alibaba also has plans to add Tongyi Qianwen, a smart speaker that makes use of AliGenie’s intelligent personal assistant, to Tmall Genie.

The Chinese Cyberspace Administration is now drafting a plan to control generative AI. According to the plan, businesses are in charge of ensuring the reliability of the data used to train the technology. Governments are looking to implement rules as a result of the growing concern about AI. Recently, ChatGPT was outlawed in Italy, which increased VPN usage in Italy by 400%. Furthermore, according to Goldman Sachs, AI may eliminate over 300 million jobs worldwide.
