Anthony Ippolito To Star in Making Of ‘Rocky’ Movie

Since Rocky debuted in 1976, the franchise has gone on to have a huge impact on the world of cinema as we know it. As a result of its huge success, Amazon has announced that it is going to be releasing a movie documenting the making of Rocky. The movie, called I Play Rocky, has Peter Farrelly directing, with the film to be released in theatres. Christian Baha and Toby Emmerich are going to be producing it, with the script written by Peter Gamble.

About the Making of Rocky

Anthony Ippolito is going to play a young Sylvester Stallone, with the story following the actor before he became the star that he is known as being today. Even though he was told “no” at every turn, he overcame impossible odds and created one of the best underdog stories known. Rocky is both one of the most successful and highest-grossing franchises of all time, and even resulted in a number of spinoffs, including Creed.

The story, and the legacy of Rocky, has been explored in biographies, training manuals, and even books tied to the character, with podcasts and anniversary specials that continue to contribute to its legacy. In gaming, jackpot slots like Mega Fire Blaze: Rocky also feature iconic characters, including Clubber Lang, Apollo Creed, and Rocky. Titles like this not only show how iconic the movie series is, but also how fans are continually wanting more content, which indicates that I Play Rocky is already set up to be a success at the box office.

The Storyline has Been Announced

The storyline of I Play Rocky has been announced and is set to cover Stallone. Stallone originally wrote the script to Rocky, but didn’t want to sell the rights to the movie unless he got the chance to play the lead character. He turned down huge deals and then got the movie made for just under $1 million. It became the ultimate underdog story and eventually won an Oscar for best picture. The movie is currently in production with Ippolito starring alongside Stephan James, who is playing Carl Weathers, and AnnaSophia Robb, P.J. Byrne, Matt Dillon, and Jay Duplass.

Even though the movie was announced in 2024, it’s still in production, with the team really taking their time over things to make sure that the movie does justice to the original story as well as the actors who starred in it. The production team has also hired a male Bullmastiff to play the iconic dog, Butkus. The dog carries a real resemblance to the one seen in the original movies.

Stallone has called the script wonderful and wished the team the best of luck with filming. He’s not a producer, nor is he referenced in any way in terms of the making of the film, but he has shown his support. With that said, it’s not surprising to see Stallone not being involved, especially when you look at his heavy workload right now, and how the actor intends to wind things down over the coming years. His Rocky days may be behind him, but the legacy will live on.
