Apple has released the latest update for its desktop operating system: MacOS 15.4. This brings significant innovations, especially in the area of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as improvements in central applications such as mail and photos.
With MacOS 15.4, Apple Intelligence is moving into Macs with Apple M1 Chip or Neuer. This integration enables users to use AI-based functions in full. Particularly noteworthy is the possibility of creating so-called “memory movies” in the photo app. A simple description of the desired content is sufficient, and the AI automatically generates a suitable film from the existing photos and videos.
In addition, the “sketch” style was introduced in the image of Playground, which enables impressive drawings to be created. Apple Intelligence now supports eight additional languages, including German, French and Spanish, as well as two other English language variants.
With the update, the mail app received a fresh design that is based on the user interface of the iPhone email app. One of the most remarkable innovations is the intelligent categorization of emails. This function automatically sorts incoming messages and helps users prioritize important emails and manage the inbox more efficiently.
In addition to the possibility of creating memory films, the photo app now offers extended filter options. Image: 9to5mac users, for example, can determine whether elements that are not contained in albums should be displayed in the library view. The new retusche brush in the “Clean Up” tool enables precise processing, while the sorting functions for albums and collections have been improved. In addition, the collections can now be “viewed” and “last divided” via the menu.
MacOS 15.4 also brings eight new emojis, including various objects, plants and a smiley face. The podcasts app receives new widgets that make it easier to pursue favorite programs or to access frequently used areas such as “latest episodes” or “stored”. Another highlight is the integration of matter-compatible vacuum robots into the home app. These can now be controlled directly and integrated in scenes and automations.
The prerequisite for MacOS 15.4 is that the Mac has at least one M1 processor on board. This means that not only current models like that MacBook Air M4 or a MacBook Pro with M4 Pro. Also to older devices like a MacBook Air M1 (€ 817.19) the update is to be rolled out. The update is now available for download and can be installed using the system settings under “software update”. It is recommended to create a complete backup of the system before installation. Other Details about the innovations Can you with the colleagues from 9to5mac read.
