Apple apparently holds onto 90% of TSMC’s 3nm capacity for 2023

In accordance with a recent report from Taiwan, Apple has a throttlehold on 3nm chips by TSMC. According to reports, the baseline 3nm process technology will reportedly account for 90% of TSMC’s 3nm family capacity in 2023. In addition to this, Apple is rumored to have already reserved about 90% of that capacity for usage in future iPhones, MacBooks, and iPads.

It is anticipated that the A17 and M3 chips will be produced on a 3nm process by TSMC. Since 2020, we have been hearing the news Apple placing an order for 3nm chips. It seems like the company has some long-term ties with TSMC. Furthermore, some rumors indicate that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the first smartphones fueled by a 3nm chipset.

As per the available information, the 3nm tech is quite efficient. Since it offers 35% improved power efficiency and a 15% increase in performance to the A17 chipset in contrast to the A16 chip based on the 4nm process that is utilized in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Referring to Macs, an upgraded 13-inch MacBook Air and a new 24-inch iMac could be the first devices to utilize the M3 chips based on the 3nm process.

Well, if the above information is correct then there will be only 10% leftover capacity of TSMC for 2023 that could be acquired by rivals like Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek. It means that the 3nm chip supply for the upcoming flagship Android smartphones could also be hampered. Well, there is a mere speculation. Since TSMC can also enhance its capacity to meet the demands.
