Apple could unveil a new MacBook Air at WWDC
It is assumed that Apple might unveil a new MacBook Air at WWDC. According to Mark Gurman, the device will feature a 15-inch display. The WWDC is scheduled for Monday, June 5. The event will begin with the company’s keynote. Previously, several rumors were spread about the new MacBook Air. In this article, we will recap all the expected features that are likely to be part of the new laptop.
The new MacBook Air will have a 15-Inch Display
Ross Young claims that the upcoming MacBook Air will include a large 15.5-inch display. The recent model of MacBook Air features a 13.6-inch display. Previously, the laptop was presented with an 11-inch display. Furthermore, some rumors indicate that the company will introduce a 13-inch MacBook Air in 2024. It will feature an OLED display. However, the 15-inch version will include a traditional LCD.
M2 Chip will power the MacBook Air
Similar to the 13-inch MacBook Air, the upcoming 15-inch version will also be powered by the M2 chip. This information has been provided by Ming Chi-Kuo, the company’s supply chain analyst. According to Apple, the M2 chip features a 35% faster GPU, a 40% faster Neural Engine, and an 18% faster CPU in contrast to the M1 chip that was used in the 2020 MacBook Air.
Longer Battery Life
The new 15-inch MacBook Air will come with a larger battery that will offer longer battery life. The 15-inch model might be closer to the 20-hour threshold given that Apple claims the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 CPU lasts up to 18 hours on a single charge. Apple silicon chips continue to have performance per watt that leads the industry.
Support for Wi-Fi 6E
Comparatively, the 13-inch version of the MacBook Air is restricted to Wi-Fi 6. There is a possibility that the 15-inch version will support Wi-Fi 6E. back in January, the company introduced 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini models with support for Wi-Fi 6E.
Notably, the Wi-Fi 6 runs on two bands i.e., 2.4GHz and 5GHz. On the other hand, the Wi-Fi 6E operates on the 6GHz band. It enables low latency, less signal interference, and fast wireless speeds. In order to benefit from these features, the device must be connected to a Wi-Fi 6E router. Companies like TP-Link, Asus, and Netgear provide Wi-Fi 6E routers.
Bluetooth 5.3 support
The company has introduced the Bluetooth 5.3 feature to various latest devices. Apple could introduce the 15-inch MacBook Air with this same Bluetooth support. In contrast to the Bluetooth 5.32, Bluetooth 5.3 offers several advantages like improved reliability and power efficiency.
