Apple has agreed to pay $25 million to settle a class action lawsuit over Family Sharing

As per reports from MacRumors, Apple is required to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit against the company. The lawsuit accuses the company of misleading its customers regarding family sharing. So, if you’re a user who has subscribed to Apple’s family sharing subscription via the App Store and has used it with at least one person, you might get a compensation of $50 from the company.

This feature allows sharing options for up to six family members, and it also allows individual developers to prevent people from sharing individual subscriptions. In 2019, this lawsuit accused the company of not being transparent enough regarding the subscription. It further stated that the customers were misguided about sharing every app available in the App Store. As per the claim in the lawsuit, it stated that family sharing did include the majority of subscription-based apps.

Moreover, Apple was also accused of displaying ads on the landing pages of a few subscription-based apps, which led many customers to download these apps, thinking they would be able to access them via a family subscription. YouTube Red and the puzzle game Brainwell are from those apps, which aren’t supported by Family Sharing subscriptions.

However, Apple has denied any wrongdoing in the process and also agreed to settle the case to avoid any potential costs that might be associated with jury trials.
