Apple iOS 27: Leak shows new design of Siri and the camera app
Apple is planning a massive redesign of Siri for iOS 27 and deep AI features for the iPhone. The voice assistant will have its own app with chat history and will analyze images in the future. The presentation is expected at WWDC in June.
Major redesign for Siri
For the upcoming iOS 27 operating system, Apple is planning a fundamental redesign of its voice assistant Siri. In the future, the software will be deeply integrated into the Dynamic Island on the iPhone. Users can call up the assistant using a new swipe gesture from the top of the screen to open a combined search mask and input mask. The official presentation of the new features is expected at the WWDC 2026 developer conference on June 8th. In addition to classic voice control, Siri will in future be available as an independent application. The interface is reminiscent of well-known text generators and offers a history of past conversations. Users can attach images or documents that the assistant then analyzes. The Cupertino, California-based company also plans to integrate external AI services directly into the system. This enables more complex requests to be processed directly on the device.
In order to reduce the load on the company’s servers, simple requests should be processed locally on the processor. For more complex tasks, the system forwards the data to secured cloud servers. According to current information, this ensures that the data is not used to train foreign language models. According to a report by Bloomberg The adjustments are not limited to the assistant. The smartphone’s camera app also receives extensive innovations. A dedicated Siri integration replaces the previous visual search. In the future, the system will recognize objects in photos directly via connected third-party services.
Advanced camera features
In addition to object detection, the company is testing customizable controls for the camera. Users can arrange professional tools such as depth control or a night mode more flexibly on the user interface. The in-house photos app also benefits from new image editing functions. Missing image areas can then be supplemented using artificial intelligence. Users can also adjust the perspective of a recording afterwards.
The planned innovations are intended to reduce the group’s backlog in the area of artificial intelligence. While the deep system integration promises increased comfort in everyday life, there are limitations in terms of hardware. Due to the high performance requirements, the new functions are expected to only be available on models starting with the iPhone 15 Pro and on current iPads and Macs. Older devices are left out of these functions.
Automation via text input
Another component of the update is a revised app for shortcuts. Instead of having to program processes manually, users can formulate their desired automations in natural language. The system then creates the appropriate links independently. At the same time, external providers receive new programming interfaces. This makes it easier for developers to link their own apps to the voice assistant. It is currently unclear whether all functions will be available right at launch.
